News about our trips and family events

September 2004

Michael and Verena went to Germany with daughter Vanessa to visit the family and attend Michael's fathers' 84th birthday.  For a few days they were joined by Achim and his 3 sons.  They all were very lucky as the weather had no rain in it, except one shower.  How unusual is this in the late summer?

Sailing in the
Mediterranean Sea

In early August Michael traveled to Marseille in France to join his Brother Joachim and Joachim's three sons for a week of off-shore sailing along the coast towards the East.  It was an outstanding "Toern" with lots of sunshine and good wind every day.  The boat was a Dufour 45' Classic in great condition and with enough space for the 5 of us and our skipper Elmar.

November 2003
Verena and Michael for the first time did something real different.  Verena was the chairman of the local Lee County Red Cross Ball and Michael was the MC for the evening.  We had lots of fun even though the occasion was Humanitarion Award Presentation, a serious matter.  A new rewarding experience for us.  The photos show how great we all looked and Michael was very happy to get a white H1 Red Cross model car for his efforts.
September 2003

Michael and Valerie with Achim and his boys went on a cruise with Michael's and Achim's parents to Norway and Scotland. Outstanding family time on a small cruise ship. We all had new experiences including no Nessy at Loch Ness.

August 2003

Michael and daughter Valerie flew to the Netherlands to join Michael's brother Achim and two of his sons for a week of sailing on the Issel Sea.  We all had a beautiful time, enough wind every day and lots of Dutch cheese from the local markets.

July 2003

Michael's older daughter, Vanessa, was married to Craig Arndt of Lutz (near Tampa), Florida on July 12th, 2003. The wedding party celebrated at the Sanibel Harbour Resort with about 100 guests, including family from Germany and Australia! Some of us went on a cruise to the western Caribbean with the honeymooners. Verena's sister Corrine and husband Steve, and Verena and I had a great time with Vanessa and Craig. The young couple joined us only at dinner time to enjoy gourmet foods and wines from all over the world!

"Michael and friend Mark Mintz went scuba diving to Bonaire for a week. We had a great time. Mark was reading in the "fresh air" and Michael met Miss Aruba 2003 at the hotel (just for this photo). The sunsets were gorgeous. The little house is the dive shack on the dock.

June 2001 - England
People scenes of our trip in England, besides 2 clients we met old and new friends.

Verena and Michael in the lounge of the Mermaid Hotel (rebuilt in 1420) in Rye after dinner. We slept in an antique 4 poster bed.

Michael at one of our many picnics in the countryside.

In a very old restaurant in Boscastle after dinner and 2 bottles of red vine with the owner and our server John. We had lots of laughs that evening!

Verena and Michael having Sunday Roast in an quaint restaurant in Lizard.

In Bath we met Julie, a classmate of Verena's during her Cape Town days in the late sixties. Both are holding a photo of Verena and Althea another classmate who now lives in Perth, Australia.

Friends of Verena's parents in South London, the Glennies. We were welcomed with great hospitality and stayed the night before our flight to Iceland.
  June 2001 - Iceland

Our way up the mountains to cross the saddle between the glaciers Eyjafjallajoekull and Myerdalsjoekull. We followed the river Skoga up. You can see one of the glaciers in the background.

Eggert and myself on the second day on our way down to the valley of Poersmoerk. The top was all ice and snow and we had snow showers.

In the evening after our return we met our "ladies" Thorhildur and Verena and went for dinner in Reykjavik on June 17th, the National Day of Iceland. We had daylight for 24 hours and the party went on and on...

Party on Union Island: we met David and Paula Hilton who have very good friends in Cape Coral and in Wuppertal, Michael's birth place. What a coincidence!

We had to take a private plane to get in time to the marina for our yacht. The Island airline we were booked on filed for bankruptcy.

Easter 2001:
Michael and Verena visited Michael's parents in Germany for a week around Easter. The pictures were taken near Solingen AM RUEDENSTEIN in an old Tudor Style (Fachwerk) restaurant next to the river Wupper. Nearby Wuppertal is Michael's birthplace.

In October 2000 Michael and the guys in his family went to another hiking trip. This time to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany. They hiked the surrounding mountains for 4 days. Snow was early, so the Alpspitze could not be challenged.

7:30 AM sunrise in Partenkirchen illuminating the Alpspitze; the view from our room!

The guys in Mittenwald after one completed hike. We took the train to go back to Garmisch.

Michael's dad (80) and brother Joachim close to the top of the Wank; lots of snow for early October!

June 2000 in Bonaire for Scuba Diving:

A street and sea scene, the waters are beautiful:

Colorful houses and colorful trees, a great combination:

Michael and Mark getting ready for a night dive; with our torch lights we helped large tarpon to fish for food, exciting!

We also ate; we had great food in small restaurants: Barbara, mark and Michael, Verena took the photo;

Please give me feedback about your China and Australia experiences.
